FAQs for those looking for Recovery Housing

If I download the app, do I have to make an account?

No. The only people we ask to make an account are the people who have recovery houses that they want to show up on searches.

What are the requirements to move into a house?

Great question. It depends on the house. Some of that information is on the house page, but the best way to know for sure is to call the house by touching the phone icon on the house page!

How free is this app?

Totally free and without ads. Also, you won’t be asked to “upgrade” to a paid account because we don’t have any paid accounts.

Can I search anonymously?

Yes, absolutely. Whether on the app or the website, we want you to feel safe in searching for a recovery house. We have designed R-silience so that it does NOT track IP addresses or other information about those searching on the app, and have made this app as safe as possible within the constraints of an online system (please see the disclosure statement for full details). The only people ever asked to make an account are those who manage a house. You may use R-silience confidentially and for free, now and always.

How are you keeping this app free?

The start-up costs were funded by a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education to make a positive impact on substance use in the state. R-silience is a non-profit, maintained at the Lee and Rosemary Fisher Innovation College@Elm, an incubator at Miami University, which helps us keep maintenance costs down. The costs we do have – empathic people to answer questions and encourage houses to keep information up to date, advertising costs, and software maintenance – are supported by pay-it-forward donations.

Can I search for recovery houses anywhere in the U.S. on the app?

Currently we are focusing on Ohio. Stay tuned! We hope to expand beyond Ohio in the future.

FAQs for Recovery House managers

Where do I add a recovery house?

If you manage or administer one or more recovery houses, please follow the button below to create an account. After you have created an account, you will have the option to add a recovery house by clicking the “Publish a house” link.

I’ve created an account, now what?

Click “Publish a House.” This will lead you to a page to fill out information about the house. Once complete, click “Submit.” The R-silience team checks the page for errors and typically you will see the house live on R-silience within 24 hours.

Will the app automatically fill a bed or match people to a house?

No. R-silience eases the matching process, but clients and house managers still need to have conversations to make sure that the client will fit the house, and the house is a good fit to support the client’s individual recovery journey.

Who controls the information about my house?

You do! You can easily edit houses and update information as needed. You add a description about your house, which you can tailor to make sure that potential clients know what you consider important. You choose the photos to upload. You are in charge.

I'm not in Ohio. Can I still publish my house on the app?

Our starting focus is Ohio, but we want to expand so that we can serve all the people looking for recovery housing across the U.S. If you manage houses in a different state and are interested in how R-silience might serve your state, please email us at rsilience@miamioh.edu.

Once a house is published, how would a potential client get in contact?

They can call directly from the mobile app with a tap of a button, or call the listed number from the website version of R-silience.

As a house manager, can I get access to information about the people searching for a recovery house?

No. It is important that people be allowed to search recovery houses free from worry about being tracked, so we do not collect any personal or individual information. We are working to be able to give house managers analytic data (for example, the number of times someone clicks on your house). Stay tuned.

What if I manage multiple houses?

Easy! You create one log-in account and from that account you can control the information about all of your houses.
