In Italy, there is the tradition of caffè sospeso, or “pending coffee” in which a person pays for two cups of coffee but only takes one, leaving the other pre-paid cup for anyone who didn’t have the means to buy their own cup of coffee.
One never knows when a loved one may need a free way to find a place to call home on the very difficult road of recovery.
